At first glance, this seems convenient, but in practice it often causes problems with message delivery.

Why forwarded emails often do not arrive

Major e-mail providers such as Microsoft (Hotmail, Outlook, Live) and Google (Gmail) assess incoming e-mails more and more strictly to counter spam and phishing. In doing so, they check whether the sender can be technically verified via so-called SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.

When a message on server level is forwarded, it seems for these checks as if our mail server is the original sender. Because the forwarded mail no longer comes directly from the original server, authentication fails. As a result, Microsoft and Google often regard such messages as suspicious or unauthenticated, resulting in:

  • in the spam folder end up,
  • be rejected or refused, or
  • totally not be delivered.

This is not an outage or fault of our servers, but a result of the strict policies of these external mail services.

Our advice

We recommend no automatic forwarding set.

Instead, use the own mailbox that belongs to your domain. You can easily access it via webmail or set it up in an e-mail programme (such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Gmail via IMAP).

An added benefit is that when you next reply to an e-mail, this one too from your own organisational address and not from a Hotmail or Gmail address. This looks more professional and avoids confusion for the recipient.

When does Impression perform backups? https://impression.nl/en/knowledge-base/when-does-impression-perform-backups/ Fri, 06 Jun 2025 14:35:38 +0000 https://impression.nl/?post_type=kennisbank&p=33937 Backup schedule of Impression

When does Impression perform backups?

Impression has a scheduled backup process that takes place around 2:00 a.m. daily.
Websites whose domain name starts with the letter A are backed up first, while websites starting with the letter Z are last.

Details of the backup process:

- One backup is made each night, resulting in a total of eight consecutive backups.

- After the ninth day, the oldest backup is deleted to make way for a new one.

- In addition to daily backups, we also store backups that are 14 days, 3 weeks and 5 months old. This makes it possible to restore a backup six months old in some cases.

Please note: Restoring backups yourself is not possible. If you would like to restore a backup, please send an e-mail to support@impression.nl.
Upon request, files and databases can also be sent to you via WeTransfer.

How do I submit content for a website or printed material? https://impression.nl/en/knowledge-base/how-to-submit-content-for-a-website-or-printed-material/ Fri, 06 Jun 2025 14:35:18 +0000 https://impression.nl/?post_type=kennisbank&p=33936 Collect all files and send them in one go
To submit the content for your website to Impression, it is best to send all files at once. This reduces communication and allows Impression to process everything at once.

Send all files at once with WeTransfer
You can use WeTransfer, a unique and free platform. It is useful to organise the files you already have ready in folders.
For example, if you have a page called 'About us', create a folder called 'About us' and put the texts, images and videos in there. This way, we can easily find everything.

WeTransfer is truly unique
Once you have collected all the files into folders, place all these folders into a project folder.

Then you can put the entire project folder on the WeTransfer screen. That way, we receive everything as it is organised, which ensures clarity and avoids confusion.

What is a CDN and what are the benefits? https://impression.nl/en/knowledge-base/what-is-a-cdn-and-what-are-its-advantages/ Fri, 06 Jun 2025 14:34:22 +0000 https://impression.nl/?post_type=kennisbank&p=33934 CDN stands for Content Delivery Network. It is a system of servers distributed around the world to optimise the delivery of digital content, such as images, videos and other static or dynamic web content.

The benefits of a CDN include:

  1. Faster load times: as content is stored on different servers spread around the world, it can be quickly delivered to users from the nearest server, resulting in faster load times and a better user experience.
  2. Improved performance: CDNs can help reduce the load on your native web server, which can lead to improved performance and reduced risk of server overload.
  3. Higher reliability: if your site is hosted on a single server, a failure or maintenance issue may cause your site to go offline temporarily. With a CDN, there are multiple servers to distribute the load, resulting in higher reliability and uptime.
  4. Better security: some CDNs offer additional security features such as DDoS protection and web application firewalls to protect your site from malicious activity.

In short, a CDN can help improve the performance, reliability and security of your website and optimise the user experience.

Reloading a web page 'hard' https://impression.nl/en/knowledge-base/hard-reloading-of-a-web-page/ Fri, 06 Jun 2025 14:34:03 +0000 https://impression.nl/?post_type=kennisbank&p=33933 Your browser (such as Safari, Edge, or Chrome) loads web pages from the internet. To speed up this process, certain elements, such as images, are stored on your computer. This is done to make everything load faster. However, a downside of this is that you sometimes see 'old' versions of web pages that have not been updated.

It can also be useful to "hard reload" the page when checking changes. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox, you can hard reload on Windows with CTRL+F5.

On a Mac, in Chrome and Firefox, you can hard reload with Command+Shift+R. In Safari, you can use ⌘ Command + ⌥ Option for this.
